About us
Transport for NSW keeps our State moving by providing safe, integrated and efficient transport systems. We put our customers at the centre of everything we do – and we do a lot. We connect people, communities and industry and manage how they use our road, rail and maritime networks and services, and even active modes like walking and cycling. The work we do connects the journeys you take every day.
We are a state government organisation made up of more than 28,000 people and we're in the middle of delivering the largest transport infrastructure program in Australia's history. We work across planning, policy and procurement, harnessing data and technology to develop smarter and more adaptive transport solutions.
That means job opportunities in metropolitan and regional areas right across NSW – you have the chance to be part of creating a lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come.
About the team
The Infrastructure and Place division is in the process of delivering an ambitious and once-in-a generation multi-billion program of public infrastructure works which will ease congestion, improve safety, create new places and connect communities for generations to come. We are dedicated and passionate team that is proud of the work we do and the supportive and flexible team culture we have built.
Sydney Gateway (SGW) project will greatly improve the way we travel to Sydney Airport and Port Botany. It will deliver major new toll-free connections from the Sydney motorway network to the International and Domestic terminals and towards the M5, Eastern Distributor and Port Botany. SGW will connect the WestConnex Motorway at St Peters Interchange to Sydney Airport and make freight trips to Port Botany easier, safer and faster. Importantly, it will also return local streets to the Mascot community by providing a new route for around 10,000 trucks a day reducing travel times and congestion.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Construction Lead, you will champion the quality, compliance and completion of construction products and processes in order to raise the focus on infrastructure product quality within both Transport for NSW and the construction industry. This is a rare opportunity to be involved from the very start, identifying each project stage requirements and implementing a completion and quality system with a holistic outlook. Importantly, you will coordinate several external contractors through the full design life cycle and ensure that products consistently achieve specified requirements and expected design life. You will enjoy working in our dynamic and fast paced environment and interfacing with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including transport agencies, design consultants, contractors and industry partners.
For those working on the contractor side then this is your chance to join the public sector and enhance your client coverage and provide additional community engagement. Working in a team environment, you will provide specific expert analysis, advice and guidance including troubleshooting interventions where aspects of construction projects are identified as needing redirection in order to meet quality standards. You will also facilitate the input and exchange of specific technical, commercial, compliance and operational requirements consistent with construction projects.

About you
We are looking for an exceptional Construction Quality Manager with expertise in project completion and quality who has a significant amount of experience in the development of project systems and completion processes for large-scale complex transport infrastructure projects, particularly involving Design and Construct (D&C) delivery models. You will probably have a Civil or Mechanical engineering background with a solid understanding of Quality Assurance and sound knowledge of contractor’s management systems. Able to wear several different hats and influence others effectively, you have a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with contractors to drive projects to time, cost and quality requirements while managing risk and compliance. You don’t shy away from having the tough conversations to ensure that TfNSW objectives are met. Prior experience of steel bridges, flexible pavements, asset handover, and involvement with a major project from start to finish, would be an advantage. Prior exposure to Government processes will be highly regarded.
It’s no secret that you will encounter challenges in this role. The stakes are high and the pressure is on as we deal with budget and time constraints, interface issues and public scrutiny.
