As a Sainsbury’s Commercial Lawyer you’ll be working as a part of our award-winning Group Legal Services team, supporting all parts of the business, including Group Procurement, Technology Team, Nectar, Marketing, Logistics, Food and Non-Food, ensuring that the most effective legal process is followed in relation to the company’s core commercial processes and procurement of goods and services. This will include advising on a wide range of projects and initiatives, and drafting, negotiating and reviewing a wide range of contracts, and working within a team of commercial lawyers.

This role will work across the business with some focus on providing support to the Nectar and Marketing teams and Procurement more broadly:

Nectar360 combines industry leading insight, loyalty and media expertise to provide clients with a comprehensive, data-led marketing service.  By using our unmatched dataset and media portfolio, Nectar works closely with clients to deliver personal, relevant and impactful experiences.

Sainsbury’s Procurement team supports the procurement of all goods and services used by the Sainsbury’s Group to support the business, covering areas such as technology and digital agreements, IP and a wide variety of goods and services agreements, marketing and logistics agreements and a variety of professional services. The workflow is diverse and often innovative and requires engagement with many different business units.

To be successful in this role you’ll need to be an expert in commercial law practice with good knowledge of data protection and act as a credible and trusted advisor to all stakeholders.

More about the role:

• Work within a team of legal professionals to help create a high performing team that that is both proactive and reactive to deliver industry leading standards around commercial contracting
• Work cross functionally with a variety of stakeholders across the Group, including the Data Governance team ensuring they receive timely and efficient legal support
• To maintain a Group perspective when advising on legal issues and support the business in following the right procedures to ensure effective contracting, procurement and negotiation.  Helping to deliver excellent contractual documentation including drafting key documents, standard terms and precedents and self serve guides for business units
• Deliver legal training to relevant commercial teams and support the team in using technology to streamline contracting processes and managing external counsel  
• Work to develop additional areas of expertise relevant to Commercial Law, including but not limited to IP, Technology, Outsourcing, Consumer Contracts and Sponsorship
• Accountable for how efficiently and effectively contractual documentation is completed

More about you:

• Experienced legal professional, likely to be solicitor or barrister but equivalent legal and other professional experience will be considered
• Significant experience of advising on commercial contracts, including data protection
• AdTech and loyalty programme experience desirable
• Ability to write, present and verbally communicate to a very high standard
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders and actively manage project delivery in terms of legal support
• Ability to work under pressure, handling challenge with confidence, drive and enthusiasm
• Working within the team to ensure effective management of legal spend
• Commitment to ongoing personal development
