Job Description

The Employment Standards Branch of the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety enforces minimum conditions of employment pursuant to Part II of The Saskatchewan Employment Act (SEA). We are seeking a client-focused, organized individual to join its regulatory enforcement team as a Collection Officer focused on collecting unpaid employee wages. As an Collection Officer, your main responsibility is to enforce payment and collect director’s Certificates, filed as Court of Queen’s Bench Judgments, for unpaid wages and fees. This position also collects post-judgment interest and reciprocal wage orders, and provides backup coverage for the Wage Trust and Appeal Administrator position. Reporting to the Manager of Compliance Review and Collections and working within a small collection team, the Collection Officer is responsible for the independent management, from start to finish, of a high caseload of unsatisfied Certificates filed as QB Judgments, and enforces payment of wages through collection actions, including:

  • Conducting searches and investigations;
  • Determining and undertaking appropriate courses action;
  • Initiating the seizure of funds through third party demands;
  • Placing enforcement registrations and liens in ISC’s Personal Property Registry and Land Registry;
  • Persuading debtors to make payment, arranging payment schedules and negotiating settlements;
  • Effectively communicating with employees owed wages, employers liable for payment, and other parties like provincial reciprocal enforcement partners and bankruptcy trustees; and
  • Discharging enforcement and collection actions, when fully resolved.

Our candidate of choice will have the demonstrated ability to manage a high caseload and high volume of work, in situations involving distress and conflict, by being a self-starter and having a client-focus. You will have excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, and exhibit a very high attention to detail.

The knowledge required to qualify for this position would typically be obtained through the completion of a post-secondary diploma in business or accounting, or significant related experience in debt enforcement/collection, investigation and regulatory enforcement
