In September 2020, Unilever announced the intention to build a new sustainable campus site in Kingston, London to house the employees who currently work in 100 Victoria Embankment in Blackfriars, Lever House in Kingston, Unilever House in Leatherhead and Graze in Richmond. We are creating our own Unilever sustainable, agile work environment, purposefully bringing us together in our own Unilever ecosystem. The campus is due to be completed in December 2023 and will consist of two interconnected buildings, as well as landscaped surrounding areas.

JOB PURPOSE

Digital is changing everything about how consumer goods companies go to market. At Unilever we were at the front of the media revolutions in print advertising in the 1890s, in Radio in the 1930s and in TV in the 1960s. Now we intend to be at the front of the digital revolution.  At the heart of our response to this Digital Revolution is our People Data Centres – delivering powerful game changing insights and facilitating one billion relationships with consumers. We need to blend social data with consumer contact centre data with CRM data with search data with ratings & reviews data and so much more. This will allow incredible insights and precision marketing. We need people with passion for digital and analytics, who are not afraid to break convention and want to be a revolutionary within our business.

The Consumer and Marketing Insight (CMI) People Data Centre (PDC) Social and Search Lab Manager is a key role responsible for developing the CMI and PDC's social media research and search insight capabilities at scale. Part of the global CMI PDC Lab team, this role will ensure that Unilever is a thought leader across the industry in social media research and search insights. The Social and Search Lab Manager will devise best practices, help push the boundaries on the art of the possible with these data specialisms, bring the outside in and develop new capabilities to generate business impact – and cascade and embed these across a team of 250+ people.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Responsibilities

  • Define best practices in the world of social media research, social media marketing and search insights and ensure learnings are cascaded and adopted across the global CMI PDC team
  • Help drive new service creation or ways of utilising social and search data and develop an industrialisation roadmap to deliver these
  • Own the CMI PDC’s thinking on how to best maintain and utilise Ratings and Reviews data – everything from how it is collated to how analysts use the data to answer questions
  • Drive the pushing of the boundaries of our capabilities in social and search – what could we use these datasets for but aren’t?
  • Proactively engage with tool vendors to enable the piloting and delivery of services
  • Work closely with our global network of PDC analysts to ensure social and search best practice is utilised across the PDC and identify and address any skills gaps
  • Define the operating models and best practices to deliver social media research and search excellence in the CMI PDC
  • Work with our network of PDC Squads to identify new use cases and areas of applicability
  • Engage with our internal stakeholders (such as the Media team) to help deliver search and social insight services, utilising best-in-class internal and external tools
  • Provide guidance to digital hubs on social media marketing best practises that you have defined, and rolled out
  • Work with the eCommerce and Customer Development teams of the CMI PDC to help build use cases and services for these areas

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Work with the wider Services Industrialisation team to ensure the latest advances in capability development are fully leveraged
  • Work in close collaboration with the Media Insights Centre of Excellence team within CMI to provide a joined-up view on how best to utilise search and social insights to drive Unilever brand performance online
  • Stay informed about upcoming trends in the space of social media, search and data science or any other major changes that could provide an opportunity or pose a threat to the PDC insight strategy
  • Stay informed about industry and competitor best practice to ensure the PDC remains cutting edge and brings Unilever a competitive advantage

ALL ABOUT YOU

Primary Traits

  • Deep entrepreneurialism & a passionate “get-up-and-go” attitude. A clear demonstration of a “founder’s mindset”, ideally with some experience of creating something from scratch with little direction
  • Proven expertise with social and search insights tools; understanding of the tools available in the marketplace and how to leverage them in the delivery of insights
  • A deep understanding of the social and search landscape, including a knowledge of search ranking factors and search engine algorithms
  • Familiarity with core aspects of SEO, PPC, social media insight generation and social media marketing
  • Technical and programming experience with a deep understanding of SEO elements such as robots.txt, metadata, page speed, server redirects and related issues
  • Experience manipulating and analysing large data sets, and running classification models on search data / constructing search term hierarchies
  • Proven project management skills, with experience delivering difficult and complex projects involving multiple teams – We’re looking for a lynchpin who isn’t afraid to get things done even when they don’t have formal authority over everyone who needs to be involved to make it work
  • Strong stakeholder management skills at a senior level, and an ability to flex communication styles as needed
  • Experience in an analytical role and providing insights and recommendations based on analysis
  • Experience of “storytelling” in a corporate context, and crafting clear, compelling messaging

Secondary Traits (‘nice to have’)

  • Change management experience, and a proven ability to create and deploy new tools or approaches on teams of over 100 people
  • Experience of understanding business questions and writing appropriate briefs
  • Experience driving business value from consumer insight
  • Experience briefing technical teams and being able to translate business objectives into analytical hypotheses
  • Passion for the digital world and its implications for business – A deep understanding of the local social media landscape, influencer marketing, etc. is highly desirable
  • Confident doing things differently and ability to face challenges head-on in times of uncertainty, with a collaborative approach

Recruitment Fraud

Cyber criminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money.

In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs.  These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.

How is Unilever tackling this?

Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.
