Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a senior nurse to progress your career as a Clinical Nurse Specialist within Forensic Mental Health.

Te Whare Manaaki is a medium secure forensic unit that forms part of Specialist Mental Health Services and the Regional Forensic Mental Health Service.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

As a role model within the service you will find yourself engaging with nursing staff and members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure effective relationships are developed and maintained. We provide specialist care for people experiencing a mental illness who have seriously offended or are assessed as high risk for serious offending. This is immensely rewarding work within a dynamic and fulfilling environment to work and grow. This is an exciting step for a dedicated and motivated nurse who is eager to take the next step within clinical leadership.

Pehea | About You

As the new Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will find yourself developing and extending nursing practice, assisting with performance appraisals, auditing, quality improvement and providing overall clinical expertise and mentorship. You will enable the team to continue to deliver a high standard of care to our tāngata whaiora (consumers), whilst engaging with nursing staff and members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure effective relationships are developed and maintained.

In order to be successful in this role, the following is required:

  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC and mental health scope
  • Extensive experience working within any area of mental health
  • Have a Masters in Nursing, or be on the pathway to securing one
  • Possess a depth of clinical nursing knowledge and leadership ability
  • A desire to expand your knowledge about the legal system and the law
  • Self-motivated, flexible and solutions-focused
  • Be an excellent communicator and a natural people person
  • Impeccable time-management skills and process driven
  • The ability to work autonomously and within a team
