Job Description

Land + Sea Civil is a tight knit small / medium sized civil contracting business that excels in small to medium sized valued civil Infrastructure drainage, revetment and seawalls

Land & Sea Civil currently require an experienced hands on leading hand with experience in civil formwork, retaining walls, and other civil works, to join our team. You must be able to work unsupervised and manage a small team.

With a varied and ample forward workload, you will be an experienced leading hand able to manage Civil Construction, Drainage and Coastal projects. Working with good people that you'll enjoy coming to work with.

You will be site based (reporting to the Construction Manager), you will be responsible for managing the project, including sub-contractors, on all aspects of the project from the ground up. You will have a solid understanding of programming, management of shop drawings along with initiating and applying all aspects of health and safety.

Skills and requirements:

  • 5+ years' experience as a leading hand or similar role
  • Ability to understand and follow plans with the experience making adjustments as needed based on site conditions.
  • Experience overseeing sites with multiple staff, and subcontractors to ensure deadlines are maintained.
  • Excellent communication skills with front line workers, Engineer’s and Subcontractors.
  • Knowledgeable on construction administration.
  • A strong understanding of all aspects of Civil Works as well as concrete form work.
  • Ability to plan daily /weekly work programmes.
  • Commitment to finishing tasks on time, to budget and to the highest standard.
  • Good comprehension of construction methodology and earthwork plans.
  • Solid understanding of current Health & Safety legislation and commitment to ensuring fully compliant jobsites.
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to be an inspirational motivator.

To be successful:

  • You will need to have significant experience in a leading hand position or equivalent, working on construction projects
  • Relevant experience in civil construction or building and a Tertiary qualification would be an advantage but not a pre-requisite.
  • You must currently be in New Zealand and be eligible to work (NZ residents will be first preference). We seek to continually improve our internal processes and so you’ll be regularly involved with proposing and helping to implement ongoing systems. This role is all about running a productive and safe site.
