We’re investing in simplifying, modernising and transforming our technology landscape and we're looking for a Chief Architect to drive this change. This senior leadership role defines, upholds, and communicates the technical architecture strategy and direction to support the Group’s vision and strategic intent, with a clear focus on the capabilities needed to ensure long term success. You’ll role model our values and behaviours and shape, coach and lead a team of Enterprise Architects together aligning our Technology agenda with the Groups Strategy.
What you’d get involved with
- Delivering enterprise architecture roadmaps, guard rails and patterns
- Establishing a presence in the key governance forums which set and direct investment priorities, and ensure that investment programmes are delivering in accordance with the strategy and architecture; driving alignment and looking for opportunities to reduce costs or improve outcomes
- Communicating and promoting the enterprise architecture technology strategy across the Group
- Defining objectives and key results related to your architecture domain/s and negotiate with senior stakeholders to agree ownership
- Shaping exploitation of architecture domain capabilities within value streams and change programmes
- Collaborating with senior stakeholders across Group Transformation (e.g. products owners and engineering leads) and the wider group (Business Directors, GEC members) to ensure alignment on architecture principles and delivery roadmaps
- Providing thought leadership for emerging technology and forward looking architecture strategy development
- Leading on the production and maintenance the content of the centrally managed architectural frameworks, including process and organisational architectures, ensuring that this content can be used practically to plan, direct and implement change, to increase efficiency and quality in architecture solution development
- Leading teams of architects to focus on high priority areas for the organisation
- Commissioning and managing the delivery of work from external partners
About you
- In order to drive our technical architecture strategy and achieve the best outcomes for the Group, you’ll combine deep technical thought leadership with strong leadership skills; and will communicate, collaborate and influence effectively with engineering and operations leaders and our Executives
- You’ll demonstrate a broad knowledge across architecture domains and technology, and our business, to align the large portfolio of change to our architecture direction and identify duplication and options for simplification across the portfolio; finding opportunities to “shift left†to release business value
- You’ll have experience of delivering enterprise scale solutions on both private and public clouds, and large-scale workload migrations from traditional hosting environments to Public Cloud
- You’ll be expected to have an understanding of data repositories like relational and NoSQL databases, data warehouses and data lakes
- You’ll be able to speak knowledgeably about data models, optimising data for performance and reuse, and analytical technologies
- You’ll be able to work in partnership with business to foster value creation by envisioning strategies that drive exploitation of our data assets
- APIs are central to our technology architecture strategy. In response to customers choosing different ways of contacting us, Enterprise Architecture need to lead transformation of how we deliver digital capability to best meet customer needs. You’ll be proficient in the use of API gateways, microservice architectures including public and confidential client considerations, event driven architectures, and domain driven design methodology
What’s needed to be considered for this job?
Essential
- A broad knowledge of banking and financial services and modern IT architecture technologies including cloud, big data, API, digital and mobile
- Excellent communication skills, with an ability to effectively communicate complex ideas, proposals, issues and implications concisely to colleagues at all levels and business stakeholders
- Provide vision, leadership and commitment to changing mind-sets and creating culture that supports our group objective to Help Britain Prosper
- Able to identify real solutions brought to market, demonstrating leadership level input across shaping, design and delivery workstreams
- Ability to translate business strategy and architecture objectives into delivery work packages which can be used to plan and direct investment
- Ability to pragmatically balance the demands of delivery projects with the need to maintain the integrity of the target architecture

- An understanding of the Fintech environment and how to use Fintech capabilities
- Consistently demonstrates and role models the group’s values and leadership capability

- Able to evidence subject matter expertise spanning business products and innovation across banking as a whole including insurance and digital
- Excellent collaborator within internal architecture teams and across project teams/ external partners/vendors
