About the role:
We are looking for a Permanent Full Time Chef De Partie to work at our University of Canterbury Halls of Residence (TupuÄnuku) site in Christchurch. This is for the 2022 academic year, February to November. Yes, that means you will have Christmas and New Year's off!
Minimum 30 hours a week, during education terms only. Our operation is 7 days a week, you must be available to work a rotating roster, which includes weekend work. The latest you will finish daily is 8/8:30pm.
TupuÄnuku has BRAND NEW kitchen and equipment with modern dining area.
What will you be doing?
In this position you will be responsible for cooking, preparing and presenting food while ensuring the quality of every dish we serve. You will need to be able to cook within budget, think on your feet and be a team player. Ensure the health and wellbeing of our customers through Allergen and Food Control Plan management.
Health and Safety is our number 1 rule, you will be an advocate and role model for safety in the workplace. Along with keeping the kitchen clean and tidy.
As our customers are generally 18yrs - 22yrs old, having strong communication skills to this demographic is a must.
Bulk cooking experience is highly advantageous, with an understanding of heavy prep = smooth service.
If you're our perfect candidate you will:
Our perfect candidate will have a good understanding of Allergen and Food Control Plan management, be hard working, have excellent communication skills, with a friendly outgoing personality. Ideally will have at least 2 years of experience as a qualified chef, with the clear ability to lead a team by building a motivated and cohesive unit and hold a food safety certificate (Unit Standard 167 & 168).
You will need to have the ability to work independently and confidently but, most importantly, you will demonstrate a passion for great food, customer service and quality.
