Job Description

The Data Team within Asda Technology has an exciting opportunity for a Change & Problem Manager to join our Service & Support function. Asda is currently investing heavily in its data landscape, and this is a brand-new role with the opportunity to shape and add lots of value to several exciting projects that are part of Asda's strategy. This will include involvement in Asda's separation from Walmart; one of the largest retail transformation programmes in the world.

 

As our Change & Problem Manager, you will be driving releases within the Asda estate, following appropriate governance/standards to ensure that deployments are robust and sufficiently validated. You will help manage incidents and issues to help ensure all problems are managed effectively and root causes are managed through to resolution. You will be responsible for communicating updates to project Development Managers and DBAs, by keeping them informed at all stages of the release cycle and to the wider Tech function and Business on the progress of problems and incidents.

 

The successful candidate will report to the Data Service & Support Manager and be accountable for both BAU and Project releases, problem management and various ad-hoc pieces of service and support within the team.

 

Your Role

  • Manage and deliver the change management process for Data, to ensure that changes are managed and coordinated to minimise operational interruption
  • Work with Data Development Managers to ensure change/release plans are managed effectively
  • Facilitate and quality check all changes (including they are sufficiently detailed and contain all necessary information)
  • Ensure auditable processes for the approval and authorisation of changes including an analysis, assessment and declaration of risk, and that the Service Manager is fully aware of the impact on networked services
  • Ensure information regarding changes is communicated to the customer
  • Manage and co-ordinate high priority incidents and problems including the inception and reporting of major incidents
  • Understand and identify problems, analysing and helping to identify the appropriate solution, can classify and prioritise problems, document their causes and implement remedies
  • Manage, monitor and (where possible) ensure problems and major incidents are permanently fixed (including identifying, recording and allocating to the relevant resolver group) for all Data supported products and reporting tools
  • Ensure the root cause of problems are proactively identified and documented, including any lessons learned
  • Perform trend analysis on reoccurring incidents and produce trend reports for customers
  • Identify any delaying or blocking elements and work with relevant parties to bypass them and keep the Service & Support Manager fully informed of any escalations

 

About You

  • Wide knowledge of all aspects of IT the underlying processes including data environments
  • Fully competent in ITIL practice - with emphasis on Problem and Change Management. Ideally certified
  • Good working knowledge of relevant industry-standard methodologies, frameworks and best practices (e.g. ITIL)
  • You will be proactive, resilient with strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience in managing a team of colleagues, including clients and 3rd parties with excellent leadership skills
  • Strong process management skills, with experience in Release/Change/Problem Management
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build a high degree of credibility and presence to negotiate, influence, inspire confidence and respect, to develop a network within and outside of the Data Team
