Start Date: ASAP
Status: Full time seasonal
Schedule: Shifts TBD as per business needs – required to work every second weekend
Wage: $14.38/hr
Location: NCSS Truro Campus, Truro NS
Requirements: Previous cooking experience and Advanced Food Safety Certification required. Supervisory experience an asset. This position consists mainly of office admin duties; however are required to work in the cafe as a support person when busy and filling any scheduling voids.
JOB SUMMARY
Supervises Catering Department employees. Prepares and serves food at scheduled functions under the supervision of the Catering Director. May drive a truck to deliver food and beverages to catered functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise employees in the Catering Department. Assists in the performance appraisal process.
- Determine workload requirements from catering orders.
- Coordinate catering staff schedules to ensure all functions are delivered, served and cleared in a timely fashion.
- Meet with function group leaders to discuss setup arrangements; address last-minute changes and resolve problems.
- Interact with customers and resolves complaints in a service-oriented manner.
- Demonstrate complete understanding of menu items.
- Instruct staff on work expectations for catered functions.
- Help staff set up rooms to desired specifications.
- Assemble and deliver food and supplies to scheduled locations.
- Serve food and beverages to guests.
- Return food, beverages, serving equipment and utensils to catering facility.
- Ensure proper presentation, portion control and maintenance of serving temperatures.
- Maintain sanitation and orderliness of all equipment, supplies and utensils.
- Ensure proper food preparation by following approved recipes and production standards.
Qualifications:

- Minimum of 2 years’ experience with banquet and catering functions with high volume production.
- Proven supervisory skills and experience, capable of motivating, leading and developing associates.
- Strong people and customer service skills; great at relationship building.
- Creative ability to apply current food trends and presentations to food service operation.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal.)
- Able to work in a fast paced environment and readily acceptable to change work priorities at any time.
- FoodSafe Level 1 & 2 and Serving it Right Certifications.
- A valid driver’s license may be required. Must possess or able to obtain a valid food handler’s permit and/or alcohol servers permit where required by law.
