Caretaker

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join Kingdom Cleaning as a Caretaker working at the college in Brecon, LD3 area.

On average 35 hours per week. 7 hours per day. Monday to Friday 14.00pm - 21.00pm (Flexible) 

Pay rate: £9.80 per hour.

An EDBS search will be required for this role.

Job Purpose: To undertake duties within the site to maintain and improve the service delivery of Soft Services of Facility Management.

These duties range but are not limited to, site maintenance, mail management, mail transportation, cleaning duties, security duties, caretaking duties and any other reasonable request. 


Principal Responsibilities

1. Inspect, monitor and record building cleaning standards and cleaners’/contractors’ performance in accordance with the building cleaning specification.
2. Be responsible for ensuring the routine and emergency opening and closing of college premises and grounds. Where possible, ensure access in the event of snow, flooding or other emergency situations. To include weekend and bank holidays if required.
3. Carry out security procedures for college buildings and grounds, to include but not limited to monitoring of CCTV, carry out routine identification checks with staff, students & visitors when instructed, to support staff in potentially difficult situations in a tactful and appropriate manner, carry out site patrols when instructed by site manager, undertake traffic control duties and any other request deemed appropriate by line manager.
4. Contact the appropriate services in the event of the following emergencies directly: fire; flood; break-in; vandalism; accident.
5. Carry out necessary duties where alarm systems are installed, including fire marshalling on evacuations, fire alarm testing and other duties as instructed by line manager.
6. Assist with enquiries and direct workmen and contractors to the site of repair and maintenance work. Inspect, monitor and record work performance.
7. Notify the Site Manager and/or Senior Leadership, of the necessity for any repairs or maintenance.
8. Carry out non-specialist building maintenance work, eg plumbing, glazing, carpentry, decorating etc, where such work is agreed as being within the reasonable capacity of normal handyperson/DIY Skills with strict adherence to Health and Safety regulations.
9. To read meters and record as required, including assistance contractor access if required.
10. Clean outside hard areas eg, paths and entrances, collect all litter, empty and collect litter from outside bins and convey to nominated collection or disposal point.
11. Clean gullies and drains at surface level.
12. Take out of use caretaking and cleaning equipment known to be faulty and report the need for repair.
13. Accept deliveries of stores, materials and other goods and convey to appropriate storage areas.
14. Maintain adequate supplies of caretaking requirements and cleaning materials and keep records.
15. Move furniture and equipment as required.
16. Carry out cleaning in specified areas as allocated by the college, including emergency cleaning as required i.e as a result of an accident, sickness, vandalism. May be required to clean critical areas e.g. toilets.

17. During college closure periods undertake floor treatment work i.e preparation, application of polishes and seals and carpet shampooing as required
18. Replenish consumables items i.e soap, towels, toilet paper etc as required, throughout the college.
19. Replace light source. Clean accessible light fittings, shades and diffusers and replace where necessary and where fittings are 3.5 metre’s or less from ground level.
20. Take responsibility for driving the vehicles to garage for MOT and servicing as required. Ensuring all documentation is carried out effectively and efficiently.
21. To carry out any other tasks as required by the Site Manager, NPTC Estates team and School Leadership Team
22. Maintain a tidy and professional working environment, and professional personal appearance.
23. To comply with NPTC and Kingdom services Policies and Procedures at all times.

Knowledge & Experience

• An understanding of the main Health & Safety Regulations, including COSHH and risk assessment, and how they apply in a college environment
• A sound knowledge of the building cleaning standards contained in the Building Cleaning specification
• Experience of carrying out specialist building maintenance work, within the reasonable capacity of a normal handyperson
• Ability to carry out repair and maintenance work with expertise in DIY – eg woodwork, plumbing, painting and decorating skills
• Experience of keeping work records
Skills & Abilities • Ability to undertake a range of caretaking and cleaning duties and maintenance and repair tasks
• Ability to identify work priorities and manage own workload, whilst ensuring that lower priority work is kept up to date
• Ability to act on own initiative, dealing with any unexpected problems that arise
• Ability to demonstrate good inter-personal skills to communicate with a range of people and students
• Ability to provide high quality supervision to support the Site Manager in working with the Cleaning Staff.
• Ability to inspect and record the work of others
• Ability to work effectively and supportively as a member of the team

Education & Qualifications 

• Numeracy, literacy and communication skills are essential
