Would you like to make a real difference in the life of a young man and his family?
We need a caring, capable person to care for our 17 year old son, who has disabilities.
The hours will be after school Mon, Tue, Thur & Fridays approx 3pm-6:30pm. 
Our has a gentle nature and we will help you get to know his unique needs. 

This role will provide valuable work experience for students who are training for health or teaching professions.  Some of our best caregivers have been health & educational professional students.  They valued this work experience and have since gone on to become very successful in their chosen careers. 

We require someone who

1. Ideally has experience supporting people with disabilities.  If you don't have experience but feel up to the challenge then I'm willing to consider your application.
2. Has a caring nature and a willingness to learn what this unique role requires.
3. Is safe to work with children and is willing to undergo a police check.
4. Is conscientious.
5. Uses their initiative!
6. Is comfortable supporting (or learning how to support) our son with all his personal cares. including toileting, showering, dressing, feeding and administering medications etc.
7. Will take our son on local enjoyable community outings, eg parks, beach, mall, concerts & walking. 
8. Will commit to at least 12 months of work because training takes time and special relationships are built.
9. Has a full driver's license and clean driving record and is easily able to get to our home in Botany Downs.  We have a van you can use on outings with our son.
10. Is legally allowed to work in New Zealand!
11. Is physically strong and flexible, easily able to get up and down from the floor and support our son with his exercises.  This is a physically demanding position.
12. Speaks & writes English clearly
13. Has their own mobile phone and easy access to internet for receiving and replying to emails, shift notifications and submitting pay forms

Ideally we would also like someone who:

1. Is able to offer some flexibility and occasionally work on different days eg when other members of our team are sick/ away/ during school holidays etc
2. Has a current first aid certificate
3. Is interested in staying many years
