Job Introduction

This role will report into the Executive Product Manager for the Radio & Music Services (RMS) Team. RMS develop APIs to power Sounds on all platforms and the role which sits within the Sound Product Management team.

 The Sounds team, part of the Product Group division, is tasked with developing the BBC’s flagship audio product. Along with its sister product, BBC iPlayer, Sounds is a core priority (see https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2019/annual-plan) and is at the heart of reinventing the BBC for a new generation.

 Our product development teams build these two key BBC products. Our mission is to secure the Internet future of BBC. It is an exciting time to join the team as we have ambitious goals to be the number one online audio service in the UK.

 Working in digital product development at the BBC means being part of a department whose work impacts 25 million users every day across our products and content consumption. This is an opportunity to work on digital product at a scale that is hard to find.

 With established bases in London and Salford, we are also in the process of growing a base in Glasgow. This role is based in London.

Role Responsibility

As a Business Analyst, you will:

 

  • Take ownership of gathering business and technical requirements and ensuring the “what” and “why” is understood by all members of the team
  • Facilitate the creation of user story maps to create a clear release scope and delivery order that maximises the opportunity for early feedback
  • Act as a point of contact for the team enabling quick product decisions during development
  • Work alongside the Data Analytics team to gather audience usage data, analyse it and provide clear insights to the team for setting objectives and key results
  • Monitor the release of each new version and triaging any issues that arise
  • Work with the Product Manager and Dev Lead to both create and manage a workflow that allows the team to develop tactics and focus on our objectives and key results; and identify blockers to delivery

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams delivering software projects within a variety of methodologies (particularly Agile).
  • Experience in providing relevant data in order to support product decisions based on evidence
  • Ability to simplify complex problems into component parts and evaluate systematically
  • Business analysis experience in an agile software delivery environment.
  • Experience of running workshops.
  • Understanding and experience of business analysis skills, techniques, and practices including writing user stories, acceptance tests and documenting technical requirements.
  • Experience communicating concepts and ideas to stakeholders at all levels within organisations, including oral and written presentations, proposals and reports.
  • Proven ability to influence decision-making at all levels within an organisation, and in a variety of contexts
  • Experience gathering, analysing and interpreting product usage data.

 

Desirable

  • Experience in and knowledge of APIs
  • Enthusiasm, curiosity and a desire to improve the team
  • Knowledge or experience of multivariate testing (MVT) techniques to determine the success of product changes
  • Strong interest in digital products, ideally web platforms and technologies
  • Experience in and knowledge of web development, data-driven web publishing, social networking, TV technology, audio and video streaming, Mobile products and devices, content management systems, interactive TV and broadcast systems.
  • Working knowledge of BBC output; editorial, compliance, and regulatory issues for the BBC
