Bushland Field Officer - Biodiversity

  • Salary $53,239.26 to $61,741.02 p/a + super
  • 9 Day Fortnight
  • Permanent full time position – 38 hours per week

About Ku-ring-gai Council

Located 16 km’s north of the Sydney CBD, the Ku-ring-gai area covers 84km2, is home to 124,000 residents and set in one of New South Wales’ most attractive natural environments.

About the role

Reporting to the Bushland Maintenance Coordinator, you will undertake work associated with the conservation and maintenance of Council’s Natural Environment and Bushland in particular Council’s bush regeneration and pest species programs. You may also be required to participate in hazard reduction burning activities.

Duties

  • Deliver Council’s approved bush regeneration and pest species operational works program
  • Bush regeneration
  • Weed mapping
  • Tree planting
  • Weed control
  • Tree removal
  • Nursery work
  • Seed collection
  • Feral animal control
  • Operate and maintain plant and equipment
  • Handle, store and apply herbicide according to risk assessments and standard operating procedures
  • You may also be required to participate in hazard reduction burning activities

Skills & experience

  • Demonstrated experience in bush regeneration including the implementation of weed and vertebrate pest control programs.
  • Understanding and demonstrated practical experience in the use and maintenance of plant such as 4WD’s, chainsaws and brush cutters.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying plants.
  • Demonstrated experience in the safe handling and application of herbicide.
  • Good communication skills and ability to deal with the public
  • Tertiary qualifications, or equivalent experience, in natural area and bushland maintenance.
  • Below certificates:
  • Current Class C Driver’s licence
  • AQF3 Chemical Accreditation
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Current White Card Certificate
  • Chainsaw operator’s certificate relevant to Public Safety (Firefighting Operations)
