Associate Nurse Unit Manager

  • Located in Broadmeadows

Broadmeadows Adult Inpatient Unit is a 25 bed inpatient unit that provides assessment and treatment, within a multi-disciplinary team, to people aged 18 – 65 years during an acute phase of mental illness utilising both the Safewards and recovery models of care. We work collaboratively with our patients, families and or significant others to achieve quality care outcomes.

The ANUM provides high level clinical expertise within BIPU and its components with respect to the assessment and treatment of consumers with complex mental health related needs and their family/carers, and supports other clinicians in the delivery of high quality mental health care.

Your new role:

Under the guidance of the Manager/Team Leader and Lead Consultant Psychiatrist(s):

  • Manage bed flow management
  • Provide a single point of contact for Northern EMH and Northern corridor community teams in regards to bed vacancy & acceptance of admissions
  • Work closely with the Discharge coordinator ensuring daily discharges are prepared in advance with the clinical team and targets met
  • Work alongside and act for the Unit Manager in the absence of the Team Leader, holding dedicated portfolios and tasks (i.e RosterOn)
  • Provide leadership and support to all shift leaders and other staff
  • Have a strong history in Reducing Restrictive and delivering recovery focused Interventions for consumers with severe mental illness
  • Daily monitoring of outcome measures, safe wards, patient ID/insurance and other quality/clinical projects/tasks as agreed
  • Chair Nursing Meeting with the Team Leader to discuss practice issues and provide feedback to the BIPU Leadership group

About you:

  • Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Nursing)
  • Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and approved post graduate qualifications in psychiatric nursing and/or relevant experience
  • Extensive experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of severe mental illness and psychiatric disability
  • Capacity to undertake alcohol and other drug screening, assessment, treatment planning, brief interventions with clients who have co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical leadership within the multidisciplinary workforce
  • Excellent communication skills, written, verbal and interpersonal with demonstrated ability to collaborate and work as an effective team member at a local and Organisational level to deliver organisational outcomes
