About the Team 

Our Sydney Metro Finance and Commercial branch is led by our Chief Finance and Commercial Officer. The Commercial Function on the Western Sydney Airport Project is led by the Deputy Executive Director Commercial, Western Sydney Airport. 

The Commercial Director will lead the commercial function on the SSTOM (Systems, Stations, Trains, Operations and Maintenance) package and report to the Deputy Executive Director Commercial, Western Sydney Airport. The Associate Director will report to the Commercial Director. 

The Opportunity

We’re currenty seeking the expertise of an Associate Director Commercial to work on one of Australia’s largest Rail PPP’s. The SSTOM package will commence delivery early 2023. 

The Western Sydney Airport Metro will become the transport spine for Greater Western Sydney, connecting communities and travellers with the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport and the growing region.

The city-shaping project, from St Marys through to the new airport and the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, will provide a major economic stimulus for western Sydney, supporting more than 14,000 jobs during construction for the NSW and national economies. 

The 23-kilometre new railway will link residential areas with job hubs including the new Aerotropolis, and connect travellers from the new airport to the rest of Sydney’s public transport system. 

The project includes six new metro stations at:

• St Marys, interchanging with the existing suburban railway station and connecting customers with the rest of Sydney’s rail system
• Orchard Hills, to service a future commercial and mixed-use precinct
• Luddenham, to service a future education, innovation and commercial precinct
• Two stations within the airport site, at the airport terminal and at the airport business park
• The commercial heart of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis (the area proposed to be named Bradfield). 

The SSTOM package is the third major contract package to be procured for the project. 

In this role you will be accountable for:

• Leading project level advice on commercial matters, contract negotiations, contract risk allocation, probity, cost benchmarking and reporting value for money measurement
• Leading project commercial response to variations, claims and notices
• Providing leadership and direction to the dedicated team of commercial professionals to deliver the requirements of the contract
• Participating in post implementation reviews to ensure benefits realisation and understand lessons to be learned
• Providing assurance relative to the consistency of project tender documentation and contribute to the evaluation of tenders
• Managing project insurance requirements and claims ensuring supplied insurances are maintained. 
• Implementing dispute avoidance and resolution strategies in compliance with government guidelines and policies and industry best practice
