Sydney Metro is Australia's biggest public transport project and first fully-automated metro rail network, connecting customers and transforming the way Sydney travels. With the Northwest line already in operation and works well underway on the City & Southwest, West and Western Sydney Airport lines, Sydney will enjoy a fully operational Metro network by 2030.

 

About the team

Transport for NSW is delivering a once-in-a-century investment into new infrastructure and services, including Sydney Metro. The first line of this new fully automated railway opened in 2019 and by 2024 will deliver 31 Metro stations and more than 66km of Metro rail.

 

Planning is also underway for future lines which will shape the way Australia’s largest city travels, making Sydney Metro the biggest public transport project in the nation’s history.

 

The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Planner to join the City South West Project Management Office team. The role develops project functional requirements for the scheduling and planning capability by engaging with staff and management of the Project and devises a scheduling and planning solution that meets agreed Project needs and requirements.

In addition, the role engages with relevant stakeholders, to develop needs and requirements to identify needs and requirements for developing the scheduling tool and processes.

 

The successful applicant will also be involved in the following:

Prepare, monitor and update the project schedule during the current development phase and onward throughout the project life cycle through to project completion

Provide project and operational support, including monitoring and reporting on project plans, milestones, and deliverables, to ensure time, cost and quality indicators are in line with approved project plans

Update and collate documentation and records regarding issues, policies, and practices to ensure the delivery of projects complies with agreed project management methodology

Participate in internal, external and contract discussions regarding activity, scheduling and prioritisation

Actively produce monthly internal and external reports based on critical project scheduling activities and analysis

Communicate with relevant stakeholders to provide updates regarding project maintenance and tracking of the schedule, its status, risks, and implementation issues

Contribute to achieving effectiveness of Director and team members by identifying, prioritising and determining urgency of the critical issues requiring attention and support.

Work cooperatively and demonstrate a continuous improvement and growth mind-set by contributing and testing ideas for improving work practices, collaborating with internal and external business areas, to achieve objectives and work outcomes

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have good communications skills and work well as part of a team. Previous experience in a project control or project planning position and/or a background in engineering will be advantageous. Knowledge of Primavera P6 software is not essential but will be highly regarded. You will be someone who thrives in a fast paced, highly complex environment.  You will have a sound problem solving, research and analytical skills. Attention to detail, initiative and a can do approach are essential.

  

Essential requirements

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience

Experience in using Microsoft products including SharePoint, Visio, PowerPoint, Excel and Word.

 

Salary and benefits
