0.4FTE OR 0.8FTE Assistant in Medicine
Applications are invited from final year medical students from University of Sydney, University of Western Sydney and Notre Dame for the above position in Western Sydney Local Health District.
The Assistant in Medicine provides medical care and support, as part of the multi-disciplinary team. This includes the assessment and management of patients across a range of clinical areas, while working under supervision.
Where you'll be working
Assistant in Medicine will be primarily allocated to the hospital attached to the medical school.
University of Sydney – Westmead Hospital
University of Western Sydney – Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals
Notre Dame – Auburn Hospital
With the exception, the psychiatry term may be based at Cumberland, Blacktown or Westmead Hospitals.
Shifts will be rostered across 7 days with morning or evening shifts. There will be no night shifts associated with this role.
Successful applicants will have excellent communication skills, and sound clinical skills. The successful applicant will be required to undergo clinical skills training prior to commencement in the position.
The successful applicants for these positions are expected to commence on 11 April 2022 and complete the whole appointment through to 30 June 2022. Applicants must be final year medical students and have support of the Dean of the School at the University.
What you'll be doing
The purpose of the position is to provide medical care and support, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, which is consistent with the level of clinical competency and experience of the appointee. This includes the assessment and management of patients across a range of clinical areas, whilst working under the supervision of doctors in senior roles.
The Assistant in Medicine is paid at 75% of the base intern rate, plus superannuation. The Assistant in Medicine conditions and terms of employment are consistent with the Public Hospital Medical Officers (State) Award 2021.

Selection Criteria * Final year medical student in an Australian Medical Council (AMC) accredited medical school in NSW or the ACT
Nominated by the final year medical student’s university for the role
Proficient clinical skills to carry out the key accountabilities for the role
Ability to work in a complex clinical environment including appropriate escalation
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
High level communication skills, both written and verbal
Skills in time management, prioritisation and problem solving
Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety
