Be integral in leading a team delivering nationally consistent audit activities that promotes strong industry compliance for import commodities and facilitating market access of export commodities.

Who we are
In partnership with internal and external stakeholders, Compliance & Enforcement Division monitor and assess risk to enhance compliance through effective regulatory intervention, ranging from education to enforcement which will ultimately safeguard our economy, trade, environment and agriculture.
The Audit and Assurance Branch (AAB) is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of regulatory audits and other activities to provide assurance in relation to the management of biosecurity and export risks. Our professional auditor workforce conducts nationally integrated regulatory audits and other assurance activities to manage the compliance of import and export registered establishments, industry Authorised Officers and entities operating under Approved Arrangements. AAB plays a crucial role in the development and implementation of the department’s assurance strategy, providing confidence that departmental regulatory systems and controls points are managing the risk. AAB is made up of the following sections: Audit Operations, Technical and Response, Business and Operational Support and Assurance.
The Jobs
We currently have two Assistant Director positions available in AAB. One of the roles is an Assistant Director in the Technical and Response Section that can be conducted in any of the listed locations. The other role is an Assistant Director in the Audit Operations Section that is located in Sydney, NSW.
As an AAB Assistant Director you will provide leadership across the branch delivering compliance activities. These vacancies may include the following opportunities:
Leading a team delivering nationally consistent audit activities while promoting strong industry compliance.
Managing staff performance and professional development; and promoting and adhering to the APS Values and departmental policies including WHS while modelling these to your team.
Liaising with policy and program areas to resolve technical matters.
Conducting competency assessments and verification of auditors.
Reviewing technical desk and site audits of new applications and variations.
Reporting and investigating significant operational situations or high-risk incidents and assisting to resolve them.
Leading and contributing to business reform and assurance activities.

What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience
The following knowledge and experience would be desirable:
A demonstrated ability or the ability to quickly gain understanding of the Biosecurity Act 2015, Export Control Act 1982 and other relevant legislation and policy frameworks.
Audit, assurance or technical knowledge related to import and/or exports industries.
Operational experience in a regulatory environment and/or in industries related to agriculture.
Skills and capabilities

The ability to build and maintain a strong understanding of relevant legislation and policy frameworks and ability to communicate to the broader work environment.
