Do you dream of working for a collaborative mid-sized company with a close-knit team that is part of a large public organization? Our Halton region client is recruiting for an Assistant Controller to lead day-to-day accounting and manage the month end close.

 The Role

The Assistant Controller reports to the Canadian Controller and supervises a team of 2 staff. The Assistant Controller is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions of the company. In this role, you will assist with the preparation of the company's financial plans and policies, accounting practices and the maintenance of accounting records. You will also manage US and Canadian tax compliance matters and the prepare all financial reports. You will have oversight of general accounting, fixed asset accounting, cost accounting, budgetary controls, financial reporting, corporate insurance and cash management.

 About You

You are a designated CPA 6+ years’ experience in a manufacturing company where you are currently an Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant or Assistant Controller. To be considered for this position, you must have hands-on manufacturing industry experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have worked for a publicly traded organization. 

Requirements

Responsibilities 

·      Manage month end close process

·      Perform monthly consolidation of business results.

·      Prepare internal and external financial statements monthly for review by BU Controller, including analysis of key performance indicators.

·      Analyze monthly capital expenditures, revenue and expenses for accuracy and completeness.

·      Complete monthly reconciliation and analysis for all balance sheet accounts and entities

·      Support for interim and year-end audit requests.

·      Manage corporate property and casualty insurance programs.

·      Oversee regulatory reporting, including US and Canadian tax compliance at both the federal and provincial/state levels.

·      Partner with the Business Units to improve revenues and profits (review costs, assist with custom financial reports etc.).

·      Develop and monitor business performance metrics.

·      Develop KPI/Dashboards and Trends to support Business and decision making

·      Analyze Forecast vs Actual vs Budget, provide support to BU Controller in the monthly forecast process

·      Responsible for reviewing Accounts Payable transactions including weekly payment runs and initiating EFT and Wire payments,

·      Prepare Cash Forecast as per Corporate policy

·      Provide effective leadership to employees by monitoring and assessing employee performance and providing feedback, training and coaching.

·      Offer recommendations for improvement and implements new processes.  

·      Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed. 

·      As a JD Edwards power user, taking the finance lead in all IT projects/systems upgrades & modifications.

·      Ensure standard costs are updated in timely and accurate basis and responsibility for Cost Rolls within JDE.

 Your Skills & Experience

·      Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.

·      Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.

·      Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, and government agencies.

·      Strong presentation, reporting and communication skills.

·      Must possess a high level of moral judgment for handling confidential information and monetary transactions.

·      Ability to guide, coach and motivate others in support of organizational vision.

·      Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) required.

·      5+ years of progressively senior roles in the manufacturing industry preferred.

·      Advanced Excel knowledge and skills, especially related to data extraction, manipulation and reporting.

·      Proven success in a supervisory, management or leadership role.

·      Hands on experience ERP software, specifically JD Edwards would be an asset.

·      Experience with Cost Rolls and Manufacturing Accounting (standard costing)
