Job Description
Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS2 Paralegal Officer on a contract for 3 months with possible extension.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The paralegal position will report to Senior Lawyers within RLSB. Specific duties, under appropriate supervision, include paralegal assistance to lawyers within RLSB, principally by undertaking legal research, drafting, administrative and editorial work to support:
- the provision of advice on matters of statutory interpretation relevant to the regulation of therapeutic goods;
- the provision of advice on matters of administrative law to support the exercise of statutory powers and functions, particularly in relation to adverse regulatory decisions and actions;
- legal and legal policy advice on amendments to the regulation of therapeutic goods and advising on legislative development;
- the preparation of legislative, notifiable and administrative instruments under the therapeutic goods legislation;
- the management of a large number of current and anticipated litigation, and enforcement and compliance, matters;
- advice in relation to freedom of information and privacy law;
- legal input to, and otherwise review of, template documents, notices, certificates, application forms, guidance material and web content to ensure legislative compliance; and
- the preparation of RLSB internal guidance and procedural documentation.
Skills & Experience:
- Strong writing skills and attention to detail is a must for this role as well as the ability to distil complex data and build a narrative around what is revealed.
- A person who enjoys a fast-paced, challenging work environment will find this role very rewarding.
- Previous government experience in a communication role is preferred.
- At least two years' experience in a public affairs, communication or media team.
- This person must have an existing baseline security clearance or have the ability to apply for one (i.e. Australian citizen, background check etc.).
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in journalism, communication, marketing or related fields, or be able to demonstrate recognised skills or relevant experience
Mandatory Requirements:
- Candidates must be undertaking a Bachelor of Laws at university.
Eligibility Requirements:
- A National Police Certificate (obtained within the last 6 months) will be required for the successful candidate.
- Australian Citizenship is essential
