What’s the role about?
As an Apprentice Warehouse Assistant for Waitrose & Partners, you will play a key role in handling the goods that pass through the Warehouse efficiently and accurately working to agreed productivity targets and schedules. You will load and unload our lorries, pick and pack the orders for our Branches and prepare these for delivery. You will also ensure that our goods and products are safely stored and replenished using our mechanical handling equipment and by completing some basic documentation. You will adhere to all Health and Safety and Operational procedures and conduct themselves according to the Partnership’s principles.
Please note that this role involves heavy lifting.
What you’ll be doing as an Apprentice Warehouse Assistant?
You will be working towards achieving a Supply Chain Warehouse Operative - Level 2.
Your role will be to work alongside other Partners to learn the skills and knowledge needed in all aspects of warehousing operations. You will have an especially designed training programme to give you blended learning of practical and theoretical skills. Within this role you will undertake a range of tasks including housekeeping duties along with ensuring that goods are stored and replenished accurately and safely. Safe practice and use of mechanical training equipment.
Our Distribution Centres in both Waitrose and John Lewis handle different goods. Waitrose Warehouses, hold Chilled, Fresh or Ambient products, and you will be required to work across all 3 of these.
Apprentice Learner Journey?
Although much of the training will be flexible and tailored to your individual needs, there is an overall structure to the Apprenticeship Scheme:
You’ll start with an induction day which will introduce you to the Apprenticeship Programme.
You will work alongside a mentor who will be an experienced member of the team. They will support you through the programme and help you put into practice what you learn.
Your People Manager and your Apprentice Coach from the external Training company will be working with you and supporting you during your Apprenticeship.
From the beginning, you will start to work through various elements of your programme. This will include a mix of ‘on-the-job’ and ‘off-the-job’ training. Off-the-job will involve completing your personal learning log to show your learnt knowledge and skills of the job. You’ll meet regularly with your People Manager and Apprentice Trainer to plan your learning.Â
You will need to be self-motivated to drive your own learning and meet targets as this will be key to successful completion of the programme. At the end of 12 months you will be tested on your knowledge and skills through a practical and theory EPA (end point assessment).Â
What you’ll have?
Warehouse Apprenticeship is about learning the end to end processes of the Supply Chain in Waitrose. This Apprenticeship will suit someone that wants to learn about logistics and play a part in mapping the future of our business. A desire to learn and develop yourself.Â
Basic English and Maths
English and Maths Level 1 will need to be achieved within the apprenticeship year if you do not have an equivalent qualification.Â
You must be over 18.
