Job Description Summary

We're looking for a dedicated candidate to join an innovative and collaborative Data Analytics (DA) team within Group Internal Audit. You'll apply data science and analytics techniques to support delivery of our audit plan and drive innovation in the department. This is a hands-on and varied role within a skilled and encouraging central team of data analysts and scientists, highly visible to senior management and with exposure to the entire Group.

Job Description

In this role, you could either support the development of data science techniques or their use to deliver audit work and will have the chance to:

  • Lead the delivery of a wide range of data science or sophisticated analytics techniques.
  • Work on and review the design, implementation and delivery of applications.

And/or

  • Lead data analytics audit engagements, providing insights and independent assurance on the effectiveness of controls.
  • Help the department to excel, by promoting innovation and upskilling colleagues.

Job Description:

You'll have the chance to:

  • Lead multiple data science or utilities development projects concurrently with great autonomy. Programming tasks will include to work on the design, implementation, and delivery of applications.
  • Lead other team members and partners whilst acting as a project manager. You'll apply agile project management and standard methodologies in software development.
  • Work collaboratively across the audit function to find opportunities to apply data science and innovate.
  • Communicate on technical areas in plain, simple language that is easy to understand.
  • Acquire sufficient level of auditing and business knowledge so that all deliveries are fit for end users’ purpose, positively impact the quality of the department’s assurance work, and improve capabilities.
  • Answer queries and provide support to end users for existing utilities.

And/or

  • Support business audit teams by independently delivering advanced analytics on audits to evaluate their operational effectiveness and highlight any control deficiencies.
  • Scope data analytics work in collaboration with audit teams, improving the benefits of doing data driven testing and growing the level of assurance.
  • Lead complex DA engagements with minimal support, and where vital supervise and coach more junior team members or peers.
  • Take ownership for relationships with business audit teams, as well as business partners, leading a culture of educating and upskilling colleagues on analytics capabilities. This will include the delivery of analytics training and coaching activities.
  • Work collaboratively across the audit function to develop an understanding of business priorities and risk appetite, seeing opportunities for use of data analytics. You'll actively promote the use of analytics by contributing to department-wide presentations.

Required skills/experience:

  • Previous financial services, audit or risk experience is required.
  • You have experience at managing peers or more junior colleagues on projects, holding colleagues accountable, ensuring the quality and timeliness of the project delivery, and fostering a culture of collaboration.
  • You can demonstrate competence in managing partners, communicate in a way that a lay audience can understand.
  • You'll support development of colleagues through providing coaching and feedback as appropriate.

In this role, you could either support the development of data science techniques or their use to deliver audit work, the following specific skills and experience would be expected:

  • You have working experience leading data science projects, involving techniques such as Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing or Knowledge Graphs.
  • You're proficient with mainstream data science programming languages such as Python, R or Java, and the use of data analytics tools such as SQL, PowerBI or SAS. Previous experience in web application development (Django, Bootstrap, jQuery) and building data pipelines are an advantage.
  • You can demonstrate the ability to deliver using these languages while applying standard methodologies in software development and ensuring that key data science and programming concepts are applied.
  • You can review sophisticated codes and are familiar with version control.

And/or:

  • You have working experience leading the delivery of data analytics to support audits. Alternatively, you have experience of using data analytics in the business with a strong understanding of audit or risk. You can manage the delivery of audit analytics end to end.
  • You can understand complex business processes, understand their articulation with risks and controls and work on concurrent projects with competing deadlines.
  • You're fully proficient in SQL, Python including the ability to mentor others on these tools. Prior experience of PowerBI, SAS and data sciences concepts are an advantage.

You have experience at coaching non-technical and technical colleagues on analytics techniques as well as delivering training are an advantage.
