Job Description Summary

We're looking for a dedicated candidate to join an innovative and collaborative Data Analytics (DA) team within Group Internal Audit. You'll apply data science and analytics techniques to support delivery of our audit plan and drive innovation in the department. This is a hands-on and varied role within a skilled and encouraging central team of data analysts and scientists, highly visible to senior management and with exposure to the entire Group.

In this role, you could either support the development of data science techniques or their use to deliver audit work and will have the chance to:

  • Apply a wide range of data science or sophisticated analytics techniques.
  • Work on the design, implementation and delivery of applications.

And/or

  • Support data analytics audit engagements, providing insights and independent assurance on the efficiency of controls.
  • Help the department to excel, by promoting innovation and upskilling colleagues.

You'll have the chance to:

  • Contribute to data science or utilities development projects with support from a manager or senior manager.
  • You'll apply agile project management and standard methodologies in software development.
  • Work collaboratively across the audit function to find opportunities to apply data science and innovate.
  • Communicate on technical areas in plain, simple language that is easy to understand.
  • Acquire sufficient level of auditing and business knowledge to deliver data analytics for audit work on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Answer queries and provide support to end users for existing utilities.

And/or

  • Support business audit teams by delivering advanced analytics on audits to evaluate their operational effectiveness and highlight any control deficiencies. In doing so, you'll have the support of an expert manager for complex or larger audits.
  • Work in collaboration with audit teams, maximising the benefits and growing the level of assurance. For smaller scale or less sophisticated audits, scope the analytics
  • Establish relationships with business audit teams to facilitate the delivery of analytics as well as help non-DA colleagues performing analytics.
  • Promote, on ad-hoc basis, the use of analytics by contributing to department-wide presentations.

Required skills/experience:

In this role, you could either support the development of data science techniques or their use to deliver audit work. Previous financial services, audit or risk experience is desirable.

The following skills and experience would be encouraged:

  • You have working experience on data science projects, involving techniques such as Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing or Graphs.
  • Experience at using mainstream data science programming languages such as Python, R or Java and the use of data analytics tools such as SQL, PowerBI or SAS.
  • You can demonstrate the ability to deliver using these languages while standard methodologies in software development and understanding the key data sciences and programming concepts.
  • You can communicate in a way that a lay audience can understand and deliver with a constraint timescale and competing priorities.

And/or:

  • You have working experience supporting the delivery of data analytics to support audits. Alternatively, you have experience of using data analytics in the business with a strong understanding of audit or risk.
  • You're able to understand business processes.
  • You have knowledge of databases and data warehouses concepts, understand core data analytics and visualisation principles and have working experience with SQL, Python. Prior experience of PowerBI, SAS and data sciences concepts are an advantage.
  • You can present on technical topics and complex analysis to a non-technical audience.
