About the Business:
Community Investment and Support is responsible for the provision of many vital services to the South Australian public to help build stronger and better-connected communities. The division provides screening of those who work with children or vulnerable people, as well as procurement of goods and services for the department, including important social services from the not-for profit sector. The division also provides grants and commissions services to promote economic participation, as well as a range of concessions to the community, and interpreting and translating services to both public and private organisations.
Role Details:
The Authorising Officer is a role within the Restrictive Practices Unit and is accountable to the Principal Authorising Officer for:
Key Outcomes/Accountabilities:
1. Support the development, monitoring and review of state-wide standards, practice guidelines and frameworks for people with disability in relation to restrictive practices
2. Maintain working relationships with relevant agencies and associations to share resources and coordinate approaches and responses to restrictive practices based on best practice within the State, in other States and internationally
3. Support the development of guidelines, operational policies, and procedures on the use of restrictive practices in South Australia
4. Operate with high level autonomy and provide high level advice relating to complex assessment, risk assessment and clinical intervention issues concerning people with disabilities subject to restrictive practices
5. Contribute to avoiding, reducing and eliminating restrictive practices, in favour of positive alternatives that preserve the individual person’s rights and freedoms.
Note: Any other responsibilities in line with the classification level of the role as assigned by Line Manager and/or the Department. The responsibilities as specified above may be altered in accordance with the changing requirements of the role.

Incumbent must be vaccinated against COVID-19 with a Therapeutic Goods Administration Authority (TGA) approved vaccine and provide proof of vaccination status prior to being appointed to the role. Essential Qualifications:
The incumbent must hold a relevant tertiary qualification and/or current professional membership/registration relevant to Human Services field (such as psychology, allied health science, nursing, education, social work or relevant disability studies) or a related discipline.
