Monetary Analysis (MA) provides the core analytic support that underpins the setting of Bank Rate each month by the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) to meet the inflation target. We are closely linked to the MPC Unit, which supports the external members of the MPC.

Department Overview
The Bank of England’s Agency network gathers intelligence from businesses and other organisations around the UK to help policymakers understand current economic conditions.  This helps them to set interest rates and other policy tools with the support of a rounded and up-to-date set of information. The Bank’s Agents also communicates policy messages to external stakeholders through presentations and social media.  The Agency network comprises twelve small teams across the devolved nations and regions of the UK who form a larger team working towards shared goals.]

Job description

These roles provide administrative, PA and event management support as one of a team of four people, focusing on either the North West or the East Midlands.  The successful applicants will also have the opportunity to get involved with interesting work that spans the Agencies’ responsibilities in understanding the economy and communicating to stakeholders across the UK.  There will be opportunities to grow and develop the roles over time (such as data analysis work or involvement in outreach activities) according to the skills and aspirations of the successful applicants.

The Agency for the North West has its office in Manchester.  The successful applicant to that role would need to work in the Manchester office for a minimum of two days per month plus on an ad hoc basis when needed for example to support policymaker visits.

Whilst the Agency for the East Midlands has its office in Nottingham, applications are welcomed from across the UK.  This role can be carried out remotely, with occasional in-person meetings with the teams in the Midlands.  The successful applicant for the East Midlands would need to work in one of the Bank’s offices in the UK for a minimum of two days per month.

Responsibilities include:

  • Arranging diary appointments, mainly for external meetings, for the Agent and the Deputy Agent.
  • Making use of a CRM (Customer Relations Management) system to record and monitor intelligence gathering, including providing data for Management Information and to ensure appropriate coverage of the various sectors of the economy.
  • Arranging visits to the region for Bank Governors and policymakers, including diary management and contributing to briefings.
  • Organising events, including online briefings and business lunches.
  • Attending and participating in team meetings to help plan and prioritise work.
  • Being alert to, and suggesting, improvements to processes to help enhance the efficiency of our work.
  • Monitoring the Agency’s expenditure and producing budget reports where required.
  • Administration for the regional office, including ordering office supplies and liaising with the office landlord.
  • Providing cover on all these for other Agencies when required.



Role Requirements

Minimum Essential Criteria

  • Proven skills in organisation, prioritisation and time management with an ability to handle a variety of tasks at the same time.
  • An ability to work effectively with minimal oversight.
  • Attention to detail.
  • A good level of skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in using a CRM system
  • Experience in event management
  • Advanced level skills in Microsoft Excel

These specific roles offer a base salary of £24,225 - £28,000 per annum, along with our comprehensive benefits package as follows:

•    A non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/95th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/50th) or decrease (to 1/120th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year.
•    A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool.
•    A 7% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits.
•    25 days annual leave with option to buy up to 13 additional days through flexible benefits.
•    Private medical insurance and income protection.
