About you

You will have extensive knowledge of working in a culturally diverse environment and have demonstrated capacity to engage persons of varying cultural backgrounds. You will also have proven skills in community development. You will hold considerable experience in planning, managing, and conducting structured and progressive programs and activities for adults. You will also be required to conduct a needs analysis and then produce specific programs based on the needs of your class. About the role

We are currently seeking experienced and qualified Activities Officers based at our Brisbane Immigration Transit Accommodation site (BITA) based in Pinkenba, QLD. The Activities Officer is expected to actively contribute to the achievement of the Serco Governing Principles and the Department's Immigration Detention Values and accomplish excellent levels of service in the assigned responsibilities of this role. This is a full-time opportunity working Monday - Friday and is a key role in helping to maintain a positive and healthy community by providing sporting, recreational, education, life skills and leisure activities.

To be successful in this role, you will be able to:

  • The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
  • Significant experience in managing and delivering a schedule of structured and unstructured programs and activities for adults and children
  • Contribute to team objectives / monthly schedule planning and positive team environment
  • Ensure activities are meaningful and encourage detainees to participate
  • Actively develop processes and encourage detainee feedback
  • Communicate effectively with staff and detainees regarding activities and events to ensure detainees can access activities of their choice
  • Ensure appropriate resourcing for planned activities
  • Ensure recreational equipment is available to detainees
  • Maintain accurate records of all activities that take place

Qualifications required:

  • Certificate III in Sport and Recreation or similar relevant qualification (general studies teaching, arts, crafts, music learning etc)
  • Provide current CPR (HLTAID009 Provide CPR) and First Aid (HLTAID011 provide First Aid) Certificate
  • Experience in conducting structured programs for adults
  • Experience working with people from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds

This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment as an essential selection component for this role. IE: Australian Federal Police Clearance, Current First Aid qualification, Working with Children check etc
