About the Customer Science team

Within our wider Customer Science team, sits our AI team. We leverage some of the richest first-party data assets in UK insurance to build innovative data science products that make a difference for customers.  We have built a strong foundation and are now taking that to the next level in our strategic transformation.

Role purpose:  

  • The creation of high-quality data science products through to deployment and automation 

  • Continuous monitoring and improvement (MLOps) of those products 

  • Collaborating with the business to deliver innovative Data Science that transforms our company 

What will you be doing? 

  • Build high impact AI and ML models 

  • Work with the latest continuous monitoring and improvement techniques to ensure that our deployments continue to be as performant as possible

  • Partner closely with our data engineering colleagues to improve ETL and data pipelines which guarantee that our data products are the most efficient in the industry and are available where they can make a real difference to business problems 

  • Partner with colleagues to identify opportunities to apply AI and make a difference to real business problems

  • Create and share knowledge; we succeed and grow together as a team

  • Develop simple and innovative approaches which produce business results quickly    

Minimum qualifications: 

  • Be educated to degree level, preferably post-graduate, in a mathematical- or programming-oriented subject, (Computer Science, Applied Science etc), or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and ability developed through industry experience 

  • Have programming expertise with Python or R and SQL style languages 

  • Have experience with ML libraries and frameworks (some of: SkLearn, Pandas and NumPy, PyTorch, HuggingFace or equivalent R libraries) 

Desirable experience: 

  • Familiarity with agile ways of working 

  • Familiarity with industry standard ways of working such Git, the PEP style guide, and testing frameworks

  • Creating data products. Identifying the potential value of data as well as where machine learning and AI can add value

  • Passionate about putting the customer first, with significant experience of doing this  

  • Enjoy communicating and collaborating with others to deliver brilliant, high-impact work 

  • Able to communicate complex technical concepts to specialist / non-specialist audiences 

  • A positive, can-do attitude and a proactive approach; a great team player
