We are recruiting for a Senior Platform Architect to join the Architecture Team within Aviva.

As a Senior Platform Architect, you'll provide technical platform leadership responsible for all aspects of the platform(s) that underpin our product offerings. You will be working in collaboration with Platform Owners, Product Owners, software Architects and Security specialists to bring to life the platform product Roadmap ensuring the ongoing quality and architecture of the platform(s) at the same time driving the future technical direction.  

Within Aviva we approach delivery with an Agile mind-set, focused on delivering small, value driven enhancements often. We achieve that with our scrum teams that include developers, testers, BAs and Solution Designers to create brand new experiences, small changes to existing products as well as investing in maintaining our existing products to improve code quality against our core development principles. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the overall platform solution and implementations by development teams driving the future technical direction of the platform(s) leveraging poly cloud capabilities. 

  • Ensure the platform strategy and direction is understood within the teams and key stakeholders.  

  • Owning and governing the life cycle of key platform(s) ensuring solutions comply with our operating model, are scalable, offer the best mix of re-usability, agility, and quality. 

  • Mentor other members of the team, helping and guiding their progression. 

  • Continually identify and implement opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the platform architect. 

  • Act as an escalation point for the platform(S) developers, solution architects and platform managers. 

  • Actively appraising the technical landscape for opportunities to improve our estate and ultimately the customer experience. 

Skills & Experience required:

  • Architecture with responsibility for delivering large scale, complex technical solutions across cloud and on-premise environments.   

  • Non-functional design principles, security, and performance modelling.  

  • Development and API design 

  • Solving complex technical problems 

  • Making decisions using both qualitative and quantitative analysis 

  • Cloud and cloud native applications and 12 factor principles 

  • Experienced in TDD / BDD. 

  • Basic familiarity of Linux and Windows administration. 

What will be a bonus?

  • Experience managing and working with global sourcing partners on complex deliveries. 

  • Financial services, especially insurance industry experience. 

  • Certification in core AWS/Azure/GCP cloud technology. 

  • Event driven exposure.

  • Ports and adapters architecture. 

  • Azure Dev ops / GitHub experience.
